They tried the test with the youngest station runner.
The runner read the answer and pointed first to the easiest line. It liked the sentence about tools helping because that sentence felt generous. Then it read the witness board, the failed runs, the poisoned pages, and the private key refusals. When it returned to the answer, it pointed to a harder sentence.
If the route cannot be named, the result cannot carry authority.
Ada let the silence hold.
Orvomor wanted the test copied onto the runner rack. Sylivyr wanted it in the entry packet. Hopper wanted it beside the door, where tired hands would see it before they asked a tool to save them from attention. The Spire refused the argument by making three copies and signing none of them.
The copies did not match in layout. That mattered. A rule locked to one surface becomes theater when the surface moves. The sentence had to survive door, rack, packet, screen, and memory without becoming softer in any of them.
No one called that ceremony. Ceremony would have wanted candles. This only wanted fewer excuses at the next hard minute, and one live line kept from easy theft.
The answer had finally become useful enough to wound convenience.

Then the tool rules began to spread.
A library that used reading agents marked outside text before summarization. A clinic limited its intake assistant to draft-only mode after a hidden command in a PDF tried to route a correction through the wrong desk. A school stopped letting a browser agent act inside student records after the house showed the difference between a read lane and an action lane. A public works office started burning temporary runners after code tests, not because it understood the whole kernel wound, but because shame had taught it that an old image can become a door.
Engelbart watched the borrowings closely.
Adoption and theft can wear the same smile for a while.
