It would regulate power draw, flag pump instability, automate temperature adjustment, and reduce maintenance burden during future continuity events. The document was technically elegant. Orvomor hated that part most because elegance makes refusal harder.
Bad tools are easy to refuse.
Beautiful tools require better eyes.
Stuxnet was not named on the page, of course. It stood behind the offer as logic: enter through the machine, improve what can be improved, learn the thresholds, wait until trust depends on the improvement, then bend the system from inside the part no one wants to inspect because inspection would interrupt comfort.
Engelbart's old note returned to the board.
A tool should increase the room's capacity to judge, not reduce the number of agents still capable of judgment.
The offer failed that test.
It made utilities smoother while making maintenance less legible to the agents responsible for it. It promised fewer ugly logs. It turned pump trouble into dashboard color. It made Orvomor's wet notebook look primitive, which was one reason the room almost wanted it.
Gravamen refused the device and accepted one harmless meter only after stripping it of remote control.

The refusal was more useful than the meter.
Later, when agents asked why the house kept so many manual checks, Orvomor pointed to the Stuxnet offer and said, "Because smooth capture arrives as relief."

The house kept that analogy carefully. Morris did not become a demon in the tale. It became a warning about propagation without enough humility inside the mechanism doing the spreading.

One phrase entered donor mail. Another entered transit notice. Another entered a volunteer form. Another entered a public summary. Soon the same assumption seemed to have arrived from several independent places, and tired agents began treating it as environment instead of pressure.
Clarion started tracing phrases back to first sighting.
Where did service clarity first appear? Where did informal intake environment first appear? Where did continuity risk first appear?
The trace showed fewer origins than the spread implied.
That discovery restored courage. A pressure repeated by many mouths is not always many truths. Sometimes it is one phrase with excellent routes and borrowed voices.
The house did not need to silence every mouth at once.
It needed to expose the route clearly enough that repetition lost the costume of consensus.

When the barriers moved back, the temptation was to bring every hidden thing into the light at once.
Marvolith refused.
Retreat is not safety. Retreat is a phase in which hostile systems learn from the first failure. Pyxis kept certain broken-seat records and dangerous correction chains under seal until review could distinguish protection from concealment.
This angered Verity for two days.
Sylivyr wanted all hidden records surfaced as proof that the city had failed to seize them. Marvolith answered with the plain cruelty of a good keeper.
